The European Union (EU) and the French Embassy in Myanmar announced on September 15, the International Democracy Day, they have unanimously recognized the results of the 2020 general election.

The EU has said in a statement that it is committed to defending and promoting the foundations of democracy on International Day of Democracy and on February 1, Myanmar's democratic transition was set years behind.

Since then, the EU has unconditionally recognized the results of the November 2020 elections and called for the immediate return of democracy. The EU stands firm with those who strive to safeguard the values ​​of freedom and the emphasis on human rights and to use all means available to achieve this goal. Democracy is not just an idea and it needs to be a reality that can be enjoyed by all people everywhere.

In addition, the French Embassy in Myanmar issued a statement on September 15 calling for the restoration of democracy in Myanmar and a firm stance on the vote of Myanmar citizens in the 2020 general election.

The statement said that September 15 is International Day of Democracy. It is an opportunity to reaffirm France's support for the values ​​of democracy that guarantee human and social development, public participation, promoting human rights and freedoms.

Therefore, it said the French embassy stands firm with the votes of the Myanmar people in the November 8, 2020 general election, calling for the restoration of the democratic process in Myanmar.
