The Union Election Commission will try to make sure that every eligible voter goes to polling stations and there is transparency in advance voting, commission spokesperson Myit Naing told The Daily Eleven.

"We will try to make sure that there is no eligible voter who will not go to the polling station to vote. Another point is that we will ensure complete transparency in advance voting," he said on October 9.

The commission instructed officials from region and state election sub-commissions to systematically make advance voting lists in accord with the law and procedures during a coordination meeting on electoral procedure from October 7 to 10.

"They were instructed to ensure systematic advance voting for all those who will cast advance votes such as military families, those who are outside the country and those who are beyond constituency areas. We have already had advance voting forms. But we need greater scrutiny," said Myint Naing.

He added that such special emphasis aims to prevent any dispute over advance voting.

Some disputes erupted over advance voting in the previous general elections and by-elections.

2019 has been designated as the year of voter list compilation for upcoming 2020 general election, and basic voter list making finish in the middle of this month.

Myint Naing said there can be 39 million eligible voters for the 2020 election and the number of those eligible voters is expected to increase by five million compared to the 2015 election.

He said the 39 million voters did not include families of military personnel and the time of collecting the lists of them would be announced.
