NAYPYIDAW: The Spokesperson for the State Administration Council said in a press conference on August 27 (Friday) that the caretaker government will not hold onto State power and responsibilities for a long period of time.

He said SAC’s management committee was transformed into Caretaker Government on August 1. As stated as the provisional government, they are not taking State responsibilities for a long time. It was formed to reduce centralization and to work more quickly, easily and effectively of State responsibilities.

He added that the Caretaker Government of Myanmar was formed on August 1 with the SAC’s order 152/2021. Since taking of the State duty, SAC has laid down a five-point roadmap, and nine objectives. In July, under the first point of the roadmap, checking of the voter lists was completed and findings were issued as a final statement. More than 11 million frauds in voting were found. Therefore, the election results were cancelled based on the firm evidence of electoral fraud and the NLD’s abuse of power. According to the final point of the roadmap, a free and fair election will be held. And the State duty will be handed over to the winning political party after the election. Therefore, we are taking preparatory measures to hold the election. All these tasks will be completed in August 2023 and a multi-party general election will be held again as promised.

To ensure a free and fair election, the rule of law, order and stability are essential, so measures must be taken for the prevalence of stability. He then called for cooperation of the entire public because a free and fair election can be held only when peace and stability prevails.

“In the 2020 General Election, there were over 4800,000 voters without citizenship IDs, guest IDs, or other IDs. In the coming election, we are planning to issue national scrutiny cards to all in order not to ose their voting right and to get correct voter lists. Therefore, we are reconstituting the ministry of immigration to work effectively for the above mentioned issues. We would like to urge all those concerned to cooperate in these tasks,” said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.
