PETALING JAYA: PKR has reiterated its rejection of the gutter politics levelled against its deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who has been implicated in a sex video scandal.

Its president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in condemning the “scurrilous attack” on the Economic Affairs Minister, said the country needed to focus on socioeconomic affairs rather than being dragged into a “dishonourable arena”.

The party was mired in scandal when on Tuesday a video purportedly of Azmin and Santubong PKR youth chief Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz having sex went viral.

While Haziq made a confession in cyberspace that it was him and Azmin in the video, the latter slammed the allegation as a nefarious plot to end his political career.

“PKR reiterates its commitment in rejecting the disgusting gutter politics that we now witness. This country needs to focus on economic and social issues and not be dragged into this dishonourable arena.

“PKR hopes Azmin and family will be strong in facing this monumental test.

“We also fully support investigations by the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in this case and hope the processes can be carried out fairly and carefully,” he told reporters after the PKR political bureau meeting at the party headquarters here yesterday.

Anwar said the party was not involved in the sex video scandal, adding that there was no evidence to suggest that it came from within.

“The only thing we considered was that this was a scurrilous attack which we condemn notwithstanding the source,” he said, adding that Azmin is still PKR deputy president.

Anwar, who was charged with sodomy cases in the past, described the latest accusations against Azmin as “deplorable” and sickening”.

Meanwhile, another sex act video clip which appears to show the same two men from the earlier viral video surfaced last night.

The new clip, with a duration of about one and a half minutes, had a higher resolution picture, with more discernible faces of the individuals involved.
