Workers from Blue Moon Garment Factory in Kyansittha Street in Shwelinban Industrial Zone in Hlinethaya Township, Yangon Region, came to the region government office for the third time on March 12 to demand that the chief minister mediate in the labour dispute as they receive no salary and compensation for factory shutdown.

More than 700 factory workers also came to the office on March 1 and called for the chief minister's intervention, but they were not allowed to meet him.

A tripartite discussion was held on March 8 between the government led by Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein, the employer and employees. During the meeting, the chief minister instructed to pay their salaries after selling off the factory. However, the workers made their demand for the third time because they have not yet received any salary or compensation.

"They didn't do anything when we first met with the chief minister on March 8. He instructed them to pay us promptly. But when we reached them, the answer was uncertain. We will be paid after factory sale. We don't know how long it will take, one or two months. We sent information to the office two times to meet the chief minister. Until 5 pm, we haven't been allowed to meet him," said one worker, Shoon Le Le Win.

Over 700 workers from Blue Moon Garment Factory has been opening a protest camp in front of the factory since February 22 to demand their salary for January.
