More than 3,300 migrant workers have re-entered Shan State through the border town of Myawady and most of them have received health checks, according to sources released by the Shan State government on September 1.
A total of 3,324 returnees had been in Community Based Facility Quarantine (CBFQ) in Taunggyi District, southern Shan State, from May 27 to August 31. Of them, swabs from 3,152 were taken for Covid-19 testing. And 2,812 tested negative, the remaining are waiting for the results and 172 others have yet to give their swabs, said Shan State Social Affairs Minister Dr Myo Tun.
Over 55,000 Myanmar migrant workers returning to Shan State via border gates such as Muse, Laukkai, Tachilek and Mongla have been sent back to their respective native places.
“The Shan State government is in talks about the Covid-19 outbreak. They are discussing the ongoing issues in the state. A letter was circulated 21 days ago for authorities to take strict measures,” the minister said.
In Taunggyi Township, there are quarantine centers at Mogok Vipassana Meditation Center, Taunggyi University and Taunggyi University of Computer Studies. A health checkpoint will be reopened in Taunggyi and those coming from the regions where the stay-at-home rule is being imposed will be put in quarantine.
