The Myawady-Mae Sot No. 2 Friendship Bridge on the Myanmar-Thailand border reopened for trade on the morning of May 28, according to local sources.

A border trader in Myawady confirmed the reopening, saying that Buddhist protective Parittas were being recited at the bridge for safety and protection. He added that cargo traffic from both the Myanmar and Thai sides remains limited and estimated that it may take about a week for operations to return to normal.

The Myawady-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 1, which crosses the Thaung Yin River, is mainly used for passenger vehicles, while Friendship Bridge No. 2 serves cargo transportation.

A resident of Myawady expressed hope that the reopening of the cargo bridge would help reduce the prices of goods imported from Thailand.

Although truck traffic from the Myanmar side resumed this morning, activity at the bridge remains low.

“There is a cargo truck scheduled to return to the Thai side today, but so far we have not seen it come back yet,” said a staff member on duty at the No. 2 Friendship Bridge.

The Myawady-Mae Sot No. 2 Friendship Bridge had been closed by the Myanmar side since the morning of August 18, 2025, due to ongoing military conflict.
