It is reported that more than 3 billion kyats has been provided in assistance to flood-affected areas experiencing flooding and inundation.

It is reported that the assistance provided by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and the regional and state governments for people affected by floods that have occurred across the country since late July this year has reached approximately 3.1 billion kyats.

Similarly, due to water flowing through a breach in the sandbank of the riverbed beneath the Ngawun embankment, flooding and inundation have occurred in Yekyi Township. On August 27, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win, accompanied by regional ministers, visited and provided support to flood relief camps at the Yekyi Sports Ground and Thingangdaung Monastery. Assistance was provided to 192 households comprising 585 people, including rice provisions, eggs, canned fish and instant noodles. In addition, vulnerable groups among the flood victims—including elderly people aged 70 and above, children under five, pregnant women and persons with disabilities—received 30,000 kyats per person. The total assistance provided amounted to 7.32 million kyats.

The Union Minister subsequently met with flood victims at relief camps at Myo Pauk Sein Monastery, Yadanarbon Monastery and U Yin Gyi Monastery in Kyaunggon. He urged them to pay close attention to personal hygiene and environmental sanitation when cleaning their homes after the floodwaters recede, and to work together to clean public places such as schools, hospitals and roads. Assistance was then provided to 2,281 people from 636 flood-affected households at the relief camps, including rice provisions, eggs, canned fish and instant noodles. Vulnerable people—including those aged 70 and above, children under five, pregnant women and persons with disabilities—also received 30,000 kyats per person. The total assistance provided amounted to 21.455 million kyats.
