President U Min Aung Hlaing inspected ongoing and future urban development projects in the Union Territory of Nay Pyi Taw on the morning of May 20, focusing on ensuring that development activities align with the city’s urban characteristics.
The President was accompanied by Vice President U Nyo Saw, Union Ministers U Khin Maung Yi, U Myo Thant, U San Oo, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Kan Myint Than, and other officials.
During the visit, the President inspected reconstruction work at the Myanmar Gem and Jewelry Museum in Nay Pyi Taw, which had been damaged by the Mandalay earthquake. Officials explained that the renovation was being carried out in phases in accordance with earthquake-resistant standards and recommendations issued by the Myanmar Engineering Council. After hearing the presentations, the President gave necessary instructions regarding the work.
The President also instructed officials to improve the cleanliness and appearance of the museum’s facade and upgrade the drainage system through systematic measures. He later visited the Mani Yadanar Jade Hall and Jade Garden in Nay Pyi Taw to inspect maintenance conditions. During the inspection, he instructed officials to make necessary improvements to both the interior and exterior of the Mani Yadanar Jade Hall and to upgrade the Jade Garden into a high-standard and well-maintained public space.
The President then inspected cleanliness and beautification activities along Yaza Thingaha Road and around Thapyay Kone Roundabout to ensure that urban development remained consistent with the character of the capital city. After receiving reports from responsible officials, he gave guidance on the required measures.
At the Nay Pyi Taw entrance gate and the nearby park construction site, the Union Minister for Construction briefed the President on the current progress of the work and future implementation plans. In response, the President instructed officials to systematically supervise and calculate the upgrading work for the Nay Pyi Taw entrance gate in a manner reflecting Myanmar cultural identity. He also emphasized the need to properly organize and improve new bypass roads and urged municipal authorities to place special attention on cleanliness, greenery and beautification throughout the Union Territory. Members of the Nay Pyi Taw Municipal Development Committee were also urged to accelerate urban development projects.
The President later visited Nay Pyi Taw Square, where he instructed responsible officials to construct marble statues of prominent historical figures around the square and to ensure that surrounding buildings reflect the city’s urban characteristics.
During a subsequent inspection of the Union Honorary Hall construction site, the Union Minister for Construction explained the progress of the project, presented proposed 3D designs for the hall, and discussed landscaping plans involving trees and plants around the complex. In response, the President said that statues honoring national figures who contributed significantly to the building of the Union would be displayed in the hall. He further instructed that both Myanmar cultural elements and modern architectural designs should be proportionally incorporated into the construction of the hall and related infrastructure. He also stressed the need for systematic planting of evergreen trees and landscaping to ensure a green and aesthetically pleasing environment.
The President later toured the Union Honorary Hall construction site and provided additional instructions based on presentations by officials.
