Although water levels have begun to recede in Kyainseikgyi town, the main highway connecting Kyainseikgyi to Payathonzu remains impassable due to four to five feet of floodwater near the town entrance and Chaungwa village. The blockage has stranded hundreds of vehicles and travelers, forcing some commuters to navigate the route using boats.

The flooding was triggered on August 20 by relentless downpours and mountain runoff that caused the Zami River to breach its banks. The overflow inundated low-lying urban wards and over 30 surrounding village tracts, heavily impacting several communities.

Across Kayin State, overflowing rivers—including the Thaungyin, Zami, and Hlaingbwe—have spurred widespread flooding across Kawkareik, Kyondoe, Hlaingbwe, and the border hub of Myawady. Locals estimate that roadways will require at least two days without rain before normal vehicular traffic can safely resume.
