President U Min Aung Hlaing has called for the Myanmar Police Force to be developed into a well-trained, corruption-free institution that earns public trust and confidence.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 62nd Myanmar Police Force Day on October 1, President U Min Aung Hlaing said the police force should uphold the three national causes and successfully carry out its four objectives and six main duties.
He called for the force to be developed under the vision of being “patriotic, capable and modern,” while maintaining discipline, accountability and respect for the law.
He also highlighted the growing complexity of cybercrime, online scams, human trafficking, drug-related offences and transnational crimes, calling for stronger technological capabilities, crime-intelligence analysis and international cooperation.
According to the president, authorities uncovered 704 transnational drug cases, four money-laundering cases, 41 human-trafficking cases, five arms-trafficking cases and 312 cybercrime cases between 2025 and August 2026.
He said online scams and illegal online gambling were being tackled under a zero-tolerance policy. He added that 635 buildings in KK Park and 77 buildings in Shwe Kokko Myawaddy associated with online scam operations had been demolished and cleared since October 22, 2025.
From October 2023 through the end of September 2026, 73,258 foreign nationals linked to online scam activities had also been deported, he said.
On the fight against drugs, President U Min Aung Hlaing said 41 special operations had been conducted as part of a national effort and called for the successful implementation of “Operation 42.” He added that drugs and related materials worth more than 2.209 trillion kyats (over US$603 million) seized in Yangon, Mandalay and Taunggyi were destroyed on June 26, 2026.
The president also called for complaints and requests for assistance from the public to be handled promptly, accurately and responsibly, while respecting human rights principles and strengthening a people-centred policing system.
He urged the police to make effective use of digital policing, police technology, forensic science and modern investigative techniques to strengthen evidence-based investigations.
U Min Aung Hlaing also paid tribute to police personnel who had made sacrifices while serving the country and the public. He said 4,940 police personnel had received medals for bravery and performance between November 2025 and August 2026.
He called on police personnel to perform their duties with discipline, accountability and in accordance with the law, stressing the need to build a modern police force that is patriotic, capable, corruption-free and trusted by the public.
