Yangon–Bagan railway service to resume via former route on October 23
Published 22 October 2026

The Yangon–Aunglan–Taungdwingyi–Bagan railway line, also known as the western route, will resume operations on October 23 after being suspended for more than a year, according to a statement from Myanmar Railways.

The service will return to its former Yangon–Aunglan–Bagan route.

The suspension was caused by the subsidence of Piers No. 2 and 3 of the Yanpe Chaung Bridge on the Pyay–Bagan railway section near Wakkaththay Village in September 2025. The damage made it unsafe or impractical for trains to pass through the area, forcing the suspension of direct services along the Yangon–Aunglan–Taungdwingyi–Bagan route.

On October 21, 2025, the railway service was re-routed to the eastern line via Yangon–Pyinmana–Bagan. The alternative route has remained in operation since then.

With the western route set to reopen, trains will once again operate along the former Yangon–Aunglan–Bagan route starting October 23.
