The government will take full responsibility for security of Arakan Army (AA) when it comes for political talks, President Office spokesperson Zaw Htay told the media at the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre in Yangon on July 9.

"When they come for talks, we will provide them with full security. Anything must not happen to them. When they come to us, we will hold talks with them and we will take full responsibility for their security," said Zaw Htay.

In April, AA Commander-in-Chief Tun Myat Naing, Deputy Commander-in-Chief  Dr Nyo Tun Aung, Kyaw Han, information in-charge Khaing Thu Kha and San Shwe Maung faced a lawsuit under the anti-terrorism law filed by a police captain at MraukU Poltice Station, defendant lawyer Aye No Sein, also a member of Arakan National Party, told The Daily Eleven.

Asked if these charges can delay the ongoing political talks, Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun, secretary of Tatmadaw (Military) True News Information Team, said the issue had nothing to do with those talks as AA is an organization working towards the signing of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement through a preliminary ceasefire agreement with the government.

Zaw Htay added that protection will be provided for an AA delegation coming for talks, but when it comes to opening a case against AA top leaders, the problem must be solved in accord with the law.

"I will not give details about this. But the process will go in accord with the law. They only need to address the issue in line with the law.
