United Wa State Army (UWSA) has invited some former military leaders including Senior General Than Shwe (Retired) to attend the celebration to mark the 30th anniversary of ceasefire agreement with the union government to be held at its headquarters, Panghsang from April 15 to 17 for three days, said Nyi Rang, in-charge of Lashio liaison office for the UWSA.

He said they invited retired Senior General Than Shwe, retired Vice Senior General Maung Aye and former General Khin Nyunt to attend the celebration.

“We invited former military leaders. It is giving message to them that we are not forgotten them. Our leaders instructed me to invite them. However they didn’t make any response yet. We have contacts with them. They may attend but I don’t want to say who will attend it,” he said.

Moreover, some leaders from the current government and military leaders have been invited to attend the celebration, he added.

“The leaders including current President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services have been invited. The main days of the celebration will be April 16 and 17,” he said.

Sun Guo-Xiang, special envoy for Asian affairs of the Chinese foreign ministry, was invited formerly and he said he will attend the celebration, said Nyi Rang.
