A warning has been given to news media to avoid using the terms “military coup” and if they continue use the word, rights to publish newspaper will be revoked, according to Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services at the coordinating meeting (3/2021) held at the State Administrative Council office in Nay Pyi Taw on February 22.

Through the Myanmar Press Council, implementations will be made to follow the media code of conduct concerning media. They have noticed that news media use the word military coup junta and warning has been given to avoid the use of that word. If they find out the continued use of “the military junta”, actions such as revoking licenses will be made according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing at the coordinating meeting.

He said that concerning demonstrations, tear gas, rubber bullets, and water cannon, cutting off the internet is used in other countries to disperse the protestors. The number of fatalities during demonstrations in Myanmar when compared with other countries is only four in three weeks of demonstrations.

Severe action will be taken to those encouraging government staff to participate in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).  They have been patiently cooperating with NLD administration but NLD caused problems, said Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing. He continued by saying that a fraudulent voting list will be established as soon as possible.
