USDP wins by-election in Tamu Township constituency

The opposition Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) won a seat in Tamu Township Constituency No (2) of Sagaing Region parliament in the by-election held on November 3.

In the Tamu township by-election, there were 35,434 eligible voters. Of them, 20,313 cast advance votes and 15,121 voters did not turn up.

USDP candidate Rohtan Pwiya received 1,0587 'yes' votes (10,020 votes and 567 advance votes) defeating his opponents from the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), Zo National Region Development Party and Chin National League for Democracy.  

Aung Shwe from NLD won 6,602 votes (6,227 votes and 375 advance votes); Zem Ke Man from Zo National Region Development Party 1,079 votes (1,024 votes and 55 advance votes); and Oun Kho Htan a.k.a Chit Maung 1,490 votes (1,389 votes and 101 advance votes).

The by-elections took place in 13 constituencies with vacant parliamentary seats.

There are 13 vacant constituencies across the country for the by-elections. The ruling NLD competed in all those constituencies.  

The NLD won seven seats and the major opposition USDP three seats while Shan National League for Democracy, Chin League for Democracy and an independent candidate won one seat each.
