Union Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor Kyaw Tint Swe, Union Minister for the International Cooperation Kyaw Tin and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Myint Thu met the Diplomatic Corps and representatives of the United Nations Specialized Agencies on Rakhine State and Peace Process and briefed them on peace and repatriation processes at the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre (NRPC) on May 24 in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the briefing, Union Minister Kyaw Tint Swe briefed government’s efforts in carrying out peace and national reconciliation including ongoing discussions with ethnic armed organizations and preparing for re-acceptance of displaced persons from Rakhine State. Moreover, Kyaw Tint Swe reaffirmed Myanmar’s readiness to receive the returnees.

Union Minister Kyaw Tin explained cooperation with UN, ASEAN and AHA Centre to commence the repatriation process, the review of recommendations about education reforms in Rakhine State and the government’s efforts in closing  IDP camps.

Permanent Secretary Myint Thu briefed on repatriation programmes signed between Myanmar and Bangladesh, ongoing plans and progress of implementation. He also informed the outcomes of the fourth meeting of Joint Working Group of Myanmar and Bangladesh. Next, two Union ministers and the permanent secretary answered the questions raised by diplomats and UN agencies. The briefing was attended by Heads and representatives of Diplomatic Missions and the United Nations Specialized Agencies in Yangon and invited media professionals.
