Two passenger buses left from Myitkyina were shot outside Zin Village in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region in the early morning of March 16 leaving casualties, according to passengers and bus lines.

The Manaw Mandalar and Thitsar Hlaing bus lines, which left Myitkyina on March 15, were shot in early hours of March 16 after the passengers from the buses spent overnight at Zin Village, according to the bus lines.

An official from the bus line said, “It is true that the bus helper from the Manaw Mandalar bus line was killed and other vehicles were also shot. As far as I know, the shooting occurred around 1 am. Passengers have been sent to Mandalay in another bus. We do not know exactly why the shooting occurred.”

A traveller who was driving from Myitkyina to Mandalay said, “We have to spend the night at Zin Village. Most of the cars left the village at around 3 in the morning. There is no tollgate near the place where the shooting occurred. There is a military checkpoint far away from the place. Two trucks were fired. A motorcycle and a van were also hit. Three bodies were covered with blankets. We cannot ask what happened.”

According to the locals, this has never happened before. A local armed group has warned people not to travel at night on the Union Highway. They said there may be a lack of information in Sagaing Region this month due to internet outages.
