TNLA agrees to release prisoner Shan woman

After 10 Shan social organizations in Namkham Township, northern Shan State, and Nang Moe Kham, an elder sister of the victim Nang Moe Hom, had requested the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) to grant amnesty and release Nang Moe Hom, the TNLA agreed to release Nang Moe Hom.

The Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNCC) and 10 of Shan social organizations issued a joint statement yesterday calling for release of Nang Moe Hom.

The FPNCC received two letters sent by the elder sister of the victim and 10 Shan social organizations dated on September 3rd. The two letters urged the FPNCC to negotiate with TNLA for release of the imprisoned Shan woman.

The FPNCC permanent committee had investigated the current situation for nearly one month and have discussed unofficially regarding this case with the TNLA, which is one of the members of FPNCC. The FPNCC permanent committee later decided to hold official negotiatiations with the TNLA.

On October 3rd, FPNCC invited 10 Shan social organizations and Nang Moe Kham to visit to FPNCC’s headquarter in Pankham to discuss details regarding the caputre and subsequent imprisonment of Nang Moe Hom.

Under sponsorship from the FPNCC,  four delegates representing from 10 Shan social organizations and family members of Nang Moe Hom directly discussed about the release of victim with the TNLA at the external relation department in Pankham, on October 9th.

As as results, the TNLA agreed to release Nang Moe Hom citing continued friendship between national brethren living in peaceful coexistence across entire Myanmar. Likewise, the FPNCC was very pleased to hear the release of Nang Moe Hom, according to the joint statement.

The court of Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) sentenced Nang Moe Hom who has been taken from her home over one month ago to a three-year imprisonment with criminal procedure Section 333 on October 5th . 

Nang Mo Hom from Honaung Ward, Namkham Township, Muse District, northern Shan State was taken from her house on the morning of August 17th at gunpoint by TNLA soldiers. She was arrested under allegations that she had obstructed TNLA troops that were collecting customs duties according to the statement made by TNLA on September 3rd. 

TNLA also said that her actions had resulted in the death of one of the officers in July last year.
