The shutdown of temporary IDP camps banks on security, peace, and development, said Dr. Win Myat Aye, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on December 26. 

According to the statement by the Ministry of Information, the Union Minister attended the ceremony to explain the national-level strategy on the resettlement of IDPs and the shutdown of IDP camps and implement it through cooperation, in Lashio, Shan State on December 26. 

The government is working for the principle which enables all people to enjoy equal rights. The ministries in implementing necessary policies, laws, bylaws, and strategies. For promoting the skills of human resources, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement have started implementing the projects for early child development as a long-term project. The ministry is also working for the existence, development and human rights of each citizen. Regarding the natural disaster management, the ministry is implementing necessary rehabilitation works for man-made disasters, the Union Minister said. 

Ethnic people who fled to the safer place due to the armed conflicts have to experience education, health, livelihood and social problems. This is the biggest plight. The ministry has a responsibility for effective rehabilitation. It is impossible to implement the resettlement and rehabilitation processes in a rapid manner. We have to be ready to do it if circumstances allow. The aim should be sustainable. This strategy is suited to the country’s necessities and laws and also meets international standards. It will help support the principle agreement of the social sector under the Union Accord reached at the second round of 21st Century Panglong- Union Peace Conference. 

For the shutdown of IDP camps, the separate tasks suited to relevant regions are required. The ministry is seeking ways for the shutdown of IDP camps. Being a union, each citizen must have peaceful minds and sympathy towards the people who suffer the plights. The government is trying to build the federal democratic country in all fronts. Genuine desires for peace and cooperation are needed. For the long-term interest, the strategy aims to rebuild the safe, dignified and independent life for the displaced persons.
