Some fraudsters use different passport numbers to obtain appointment bookings, and impersonators of embassy staff claim to provide financial checks, announced the Thai Embassy in Myanmar.

In the embassy's online visa appointment system, some fraudsters are using different passport numbers to obtain multiple booking slots, not just for one person. As a result of this, there is a high number of applicants who have made an appointment on the day of the appointment but no applicant is showed up, the Thai Embassy announced.

In addition, some of the visa applicants were tricked by the impersonators of the embassy staff into believing that their money would be checked before entering the embassy's consular section, the Thai embassy announced.

The embassy does not set a fee for applying for a visa appointment. If someone approaches a person who wants to apply for a visa appointment for the reservation slot and asks for a fee, do not trust that person and do not have to comply with the request. The embassy has never been involved in such matters, it said.

Applicants are requested to use the embassy's online appointment system correctly to avoid appointments not available for visa applicants who urgently need to travel to Thailand. The embassy only checks the booking confirmation information and passport of the visa applicants outside the consulate, and the necessary documents are checked inside the consulate and the visa fee is accepted so it is not the embassy that checks the documents and money in an external place. If any of the above-mentioned frauds are found, please inform the embassy staff or security staff, it said.
