Taipei (The China Post) - Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je recently started a Sina Weibo account under the name “Taiwan Elderly” with the aim of building a friendly relationship with netizens from across the Taiwan Strait.
The bold move sparked heated discussions online, however, as the once-popular politician has been marginalized by outsiders from the two major parties in the 2020 Presidential Election in Taiwan.
“Hi everyone, I’m Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je and most people call me ‘Ko P’ (柯P). As a professor at a College of Medicine, I know the importance of exchanging sufficient information and being open to ‘diversity’ to provide a careful symptomatic treatment,” Ko said in his first post on Weibo.
Ko uploaded the video to greet citizens, inviting them to “know various perspectives of Taipei” by subscribing to his Weibo account.
Some mainland Chinese praised the “brave” of Ko for creating the Weibo account; the first mayor registering a Weibo account in Taiwan.
According to the ETtoday, Huang Ching-yin, a deputy spokeswoman of Taipei City Government, stressed that Ko aims to introduce and market Taipei City through the aforesaid social media account.
