The government has decided to lift the state of emergency in Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama prefectures, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Monday evening.

The announcement marks the end of the emergency state for the entire nation.

An advisory panel of experts on the spread of the new coronavirus earlier on Monday approved the government’s plan.
