State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended ASEAN Leaders’ Retreat of the 34th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on June 23.

The ASEAN Leaders’ Retreat of the 34th ASEAN Summit was held at The Athenee Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on June 23.

Those who were present at the retreat together with State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi were Kyaw Tin, Minister for International Cooperation and Thaung Tun, Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

The retreat was attended by the leaders, foreign ministers and economic ministers from ASEAN bloc as it was of great importance.

During the retreat, the leaders of ASEAN concentrated on Rakhine issue, re-acceptance of Bengalis and assistance of ASEAN. The leaders of Malaysia and Indonesia pointed out that Myanmar’s efforts to re-accept Bengalis should be made through time limitation. The ASEAN bloc would continue making collaborative efforts with Myanmar government in Bengali issue.

The leaders also focused on matters relating to regional stability, trade, migrant workers, environment and conservation of natural resources at sea.

After the retreat, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha taking over ASEAN alternate chairmanship held a press conference which highlighted the outcomes of the 34th ASEAN Summit, statements, future tasks, challenges and bilateral agreements between countries.

The 12th tripartite meeting of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand was also held on June 23.
