State Counsellor and military chief receive EU Special Representative

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services met separately with Eamon Gilmore, European Union’s Special Representative for Human Rights, at Nay Pyi Taw on June 13 and discussed about internal peace and human rights issues, announced the State Counsellor Office and Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services on June 13.

State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Aung San Suu Kyi received the delegation led by Eamon Gilmore (former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland), the European Union’s Special Representative for Human Rights, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw and they exchanged views on matters relating to EU’s continued support for the success of Myanmar’s democratic transition, the peace process and development, the announcement said.

Both sides also discussed about protection and promotion of human rights and labour rights and extending support to the Myanmar Government’s effort for peace, stability and development of Rakhine State, and enhancing trade and economic relations between Myanmar and the EU, it said.

Kyaw Tint Swe, Union Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor, Kyaw Tin, Union Minister for International Cooperation and Kristian Schmidt, EU Ambassador to Myanmar and the members of the delegation attended the meeting.

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received European Union Special Representative for Human Rights Mr. Eamon Gilmore at the Parlour of Bayintnaung Villa on the morning of June 13 and discussed about domestic peace affairs of Myanmar and situations that can make cooperative efforts, announced the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services.

Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dway, Lt-Gen Soe Htut and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Ambassador of the European Union to Myanmar Kristian Schmidt and officials attended the meeting.
