COLOMBO ( The Island/ANN ) - The Podujana Peramuna led by the Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, has called for a halt to the PSC proceedings.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday that he would testify before the ongoing Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) inquiring into the April 21st Easter Sunday suicide bomb attacks on three churches and three luxury hotels, since the judiciary had acknowledged the legality of the PSC.

In sharp contrast President Maithripala Sirisena, who has been critical of the PSC proceedings has said that he was not bound to appear before it. General Secretary of the SLFP, Dayasiri Jayasekera after initially refusing to testify before the PSC, did so this week.

The Podujana Peramuna led by the Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, has called for a halt to the PSC proceedings.

"Despite some political leaders criticising the PSC, the judiciary has acknowledged its legality. Therefore I am not afraid to go before the PSC and reveal all that I know," the Prime Minister said, adding that the measures he had adopted following the suicide bomb explosions triggered by some members of the Tawheed Jamath led by Zaharan Hashim, had ensured that all suspects linked to the attacks were arrested within a very short period of about sixty days.

He expressed alarm at the miscommunication of intelligence information to the relevant law enforcement units, pointing out that they had failed to act properly. However, Wickremesinghe said that he had met the security chiefs as soon as he received news of the attacks and directed them to take immediate action.

The Prime Minister commended all those who had worked tirelessly towards providing relief to the victims and rebuilding the damaged churches.
