Some political parties and more than 100 CSOs issued a joint statement, saying that authorities should designate MraukU region in Rakhine State as a war free zone.

The move came from the political talk with the title of ‘Rakhine issue is Union concern’ that took place at Ramkrishna Mission Hall at the corner of Anawrahta Street and Botahtaung Pagoda Street in Yangon on June 2.

Launching military attacks of the ethnics including Rakhine are rooted in prolonged political problems . These resistances are to seek democracy and equal ethnic rights. Powerful Tatmadaw should announce its ceasefire with ethnic armed organizations across the country in a bid to halt clashes. The AA ought to announce the ceasefires as well, the joint statement said.

Tatmadaw already announced its ceasefire in the five military commands and it also extended ceasefire period. But it turned a blind eye on Rakhine State and it was not fair. The ongoing problems should be accepted as political ones. The political problem addressing table is needed in the search for freedom, equality, mutual respect and justice, the joint statement said.

The world nations are now making efforts in enjoying developments by drawing up economic and political strategies. At such a time, Myanmar must seek good opportunities for internal peace and reconciliation, the joint statement said.
