Shan tops the list of human trafficking cases in late May

There were 26 reported human trafficking cases in late May. The number of human trafficking cases has increased by 11, compared with April, according to the Anti-Human Trafficking Police.

Shan topped the list of human trafficking in late May, with 11 cases, followed by Yangon with five, Kayin, Ayeyawady, Mandalay and Bago with two each and Kachin and Nay Pyi Taw with one each.

Yangon accounted for 19 per cent, Shan, for 42 per cent, Kachin, for four per cent, Ayeyawady for eight per cent, Mandalay for eight, Kayin for seven per cent, Bago for eight per cent and Nay Pyi Taw for four per cent.

The police arrested 78 culprits involved in the human trafficking cases—14 males and 62 females. In late May, there were 36 human trafficking victims—three males, 26 females and seven children. There were 24 forced marriages with Chinese men, one forced labour and one prostitution case.

In late April, Yangon led the list of human trafficking with seven cases, followed by Shan with four, Kachin with two and Ayeyawady and Mandalay with one each.
