Quake in Shwebo causes damages in Shwebo, Khin-U and Yae-U

A moderate quake of 6.0 Richter Scale centering near Shwebo caused damages on religious buildings, schools and houses in Shwebo, Khin-U and Yae-U townships and initial reports said there are some injured people.

“A woman in Yae-U Township had injuries in the quake and sent to the hospital. Two female students also had medical cares. Pagodas and religious buildings are also damaged. There may be some damages in the villages,” said Aung Myint Thaung from Yae-U.

Pagodas and religious buildings in Tharwadi, Baoh, Longshae, Kanthayar, Ingyinpin, Paunglekone, Kinpyit, Sisonelay, Ywarthan, Thagaya and Taebopin villages are also damaged due to the quake, according to Khin-U Township general administrative department.

Similarly, pagodas and religious buildings in Boaungzeya, Aungmingalar, and Aungsan wards and Mae Oo, Sithar, Myinpauk and Oakpho villages in Yae-U Township are damaged. A woman had injured in the accident, according to police record.

Moreover some pagodas in Shwebo Township are damaged and authorities are still collecting the list of damages.

“Thabeikkyin quake moved sideways and the quake hit today jolted up and down. Although it is not strong, its depth is shallow. Its epicenter is near Yae-U,” said Geologist Hla Myint from Khin-U.

Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced that series of aftershocks jolted after the quake.
