Projects spent with public funds should be the ones beneficial to regions: President

The projects that were spent with public funds should be the ones that are beneficial to the regions. The projects should not be given to those whom we like. It is required to follow tender rules released by President Office. Legal actions can be taken against those who are involved in the misappropriation of public funds, said President Win Myint.

The remarks of the president came from his speech to the inauguration of Shwethaungyan Bridge in Shwethaungyan Town, Pathein Township, Ayeyawady Region on October 28. 

“The residents are required to cooperate with the officials concerned in order to steer clear of misappropriation in spending public funds in the construction of the roads and bridges. The projects that were spent with public funds should be the ones that are beneficial to the regions. The projects should not be given to those are in favour,” said President Win Myint.

“It is necessary for the departmental officials to follow tender rules released by President Office. Legal actions can be taken against those who are involved in the misappropriation of public funds.   Allocation must be made effectively enough for the people in every step. But, if budge loss occur, the government must take legal actions against those who are involved in misappropriation of public funds in accordance with the law,” said President Win Myint.

The officials concerned have been instructed to check quality control in the construction of the roads and the bridges. The projects must be appropriate with the set standards. If untimely damage takes place or the people are in trouble, the officials concerned will accept responsibility and accountability for that. The people are required to look after the infrastructures spent with public funds, said President Win Myint.
