Passengers and trucks are left stranded for three days due to the suspension of ferry services caused by the fights near Yarmaung Bridge in Minbya Township in Rakhine State.

Passengers and trucks have to rely on ferry services as Yarmaung Bridge is under repair. Since 14 February, the ferry service has stopped due to the fights.

Ko Ann Thar Gyi who is the owner of the bottled water factory said: “I think hundreds of passengers are stranded there. Yesterday, my friends gave food to around 300 passengers there. Today, the ferry services resumed for around one hour. The voices of fights are heard near the bridge.”

Rakhine State MP U Hla Thein Aung from Minbya Township said: “Some cars are still stranded. I ask the reason why the ferry service is unavailable. I hear the sounds of gunfire near the bridge. It has been three days.”

Yarmaung Bridge is located on Yangon-Sittwe Highway.
