Over 26 million people received COVID-19 vaccine in Myanmar as of March 29

As of March 29, more than 26 million people have been vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine, and more than one million have booster doses, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Vaccines are being given in priority groups in Myanmar, with 21,886,140 (21.88 million) people received two doses, 488,463 (4.88 million) people received one dose and 1,069,672 (1.06 million) received booster doses, totaling 26,473,700 people (26.47 million) and 49,726,635 (49.72 million) doses as of March 29, according to the MOH.

In Myanmar, the 45 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been provided, covering more than 60 percent of the population.

The MOH launched the COVID-19 vaccination in January 2021 and provided Covishield from India, Sinovax and Sinopharm from China and Sputnik Light from Russia.

Of the one million doses of Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine donated by Thailand, the first batch of 500,000 was received.

The government spent US$ 276.64 million on the purchase of COVID-19 vaccine and received US$ 121.12 million to buy the vaccines from other countries. Myanmar received 45 million doses from vaccine purchase and 17 million doses from the donation, totaling 62 million doses.

Currently, Myanmar is providing booster dose to people over the age of 65, according to the ministry.

Elderly people who may be severely affected by COVID-19 infection and people with underlying medical conditions are being given the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine (booster dose).
