Myanmar has pardoned more than 2,100 prisoners serving their jail sentences under Section 505-A of the Penal Code, according to a statement issued by the State Administration Council.
In commemoration of Full Moon Day of Kason also called Buddha’s Day that falls on May 3 and as a gesture of showing compassion and humanitarianism, a total of 2,153 people who were serving their prison terms under Section 505-A in respective prisons across the country have been released under an amnesty with the confession that if they commit a further crime, they shall serve both current and previously remaining jail terms, the statement says.
“Today, we have a pardon for prisoners. All those charged under Section 505-A will be released. But foreigners are not included,” said SAC spokesperson Major General Zaw Min Tun.
