The State Administration Council (SAC) announced that four members of the Dark Shadow group, who planned to detonate 107 mm homemade rockets at the crowded opening ceremony of Thanlyin Bridge 3, were arrested with weapons and ammunition.

Additionally, the SAC reported the arrest of nine individuals on June 10 who were also involved in the same plot.

The suspects, linked to the Yangon UG under the National Unity Government (NUG), were apprehended on the morning of June 8, 2024, in a wooden cabin in the shipyard workers' housing area in Ward 61 of Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Township, Yangon.

Those arrested included Sein Gyi (also known as Aung Htwe, 26), Cho Gyi (also known as Hein Htet Aung, 18), Min Thu (30), Maung Hein (24), Aung Thura Tun (25), Pyae Phyo Zaw (18), and Htet Akar Lin (26).

Based on confessions from detainee Cho Gyi, Dark Shadow members Myo Thein Tun Ba, Zaw Gyi (also known as Ko Htet), Ye Zaw Tun (also known as Phenix), and Shein Myit Mo Aung (also known as Ko Shein) were identified and arrested separately in Yangon Region on June 14.

Myo Thein Tun Ba and Ye Zaw Tun, involved in firing rockets, were found at apartment No.13 in the Staff Quarter of Yangon Zoological Garden located in Mingalar Taungnyunt Township, while Zaw Gyi and Shein Myit Mo Tun were located at Kyansitthar Housing in Ward 6 in eastern Hlaingthayar Township.

They were in possession of an FGC-9 gun, a magazine, China-made bombs, 29 bullets, four keypad phones, four batteries, a bag of fertilizer, and five grenades.

The detainees revealed that under the supervision of Phyu Hnin Aye, who is still at large, Cho Gyi, Ye Zaw Tun, Zaw Gyi, and Ko Shein had attended a one-month explosive training course near Lay Kay Kaw new town in the KNLA Brigade-6 controlled area.

During the training, they participated in an online meeting led by U Ye Mon from the NUG. U Ye Mon instructed them to secretly return to Yangon Region upon completion of the course and carry out destructive acts, promising support in the form of weapons and related items.

In October 2021, Cho Gyi, Ye Zaw Tun, Zaw Gyi, and Ko Shein arrived in Yangon Region and joined Dark Shadow, led by Chan Nyein Tun (also known as Panda Lay), who is also still at large.

Explosive devices, related items, and cash were provided by U Ye Mon through Panda Lay. U Ye Mon ordered the detainees to carry out destructive acts in Yangon Region.

Consequently, Dark Shadow members executed two explosions in Yangon Region, one in front of the Electricity Power Corporation office in Mingalar Taungnyunt Township in December 2021 and another at a police outpost in Hlaingthayar Township in April 2024, according to the SAC.
