Facebook announced on February 3 that its platform is being blocked after Myanmar's military took over power.

A Facebook representative told the AFP that Facebook was made aware of the block placed in Myanmar to access its services and that Facebook urges Myanmar's governing body to reverse their decision so that citizens can communicate with their families and friends as well as are kept up to date of important news.

Facebook is the most widely used social media platform in Myanmar. Myanmar's government as well as other institutions also utilize Facebook to regularly update news information.

Net Blocks, a watchdog organization that observers internet blockages across the world, say that Myanmar is seeing widespread barring of Facebook and Instagram platforms. It also said that the stateowned telecommunications company MPT is blocking most of it.
