The ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) will push respective departments and officials for the improvement of socio-economic status of citizens, Dr. Myo Nyunt, a spokesperson of the NLD told the Daily Eleven.

In reply to the question about how the NLD will make political reforms as the NLD faced losses in some constituencies in the by-election, Dr. Myo Nyunt said: “Our party will make efforts for the satisfactions of citizens before the 2020 election. According to the current situation, the NLD will try to improve the daily lives of people, education and healthcare sectors. The party will redouble their efforts.”

Officials of the party will discuss the current economic and political crisis the people are facing. Then, it will be submitted to the party’s central committee meeting. The country will see development only when there is public cooperation. The people need to vote only for those who are able serve the interests of the people and the country, he added.

“It is not easy to persuade a people so deeply rooted in the old system for about 60 years to make changes. The successive governments granted permits to those close to them. Some people don’t like us as the NLD-led government grants permits only in accordance with the laws. Our party will continue to make reforms for the interest of people and in conformity with the laws,”” he continued.

The ruling NLD secured only seven out of 13 vacant seats in the by-election held on November 3.

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, Vice-President of the ruling NLD told media on November 3 that as the party’s official, “I was not fully satisfied with the by-election result. I wanted to win all seats. It was a lesson for us. It showed we needed to reconstruct it and had weaknesses. The party would choose candidates who would be favoured by the people for the 2020 election. The party would be reconstructed if the party was weak in organizing the people. Currently the party was working on the enforcement of party rules.“
