NLD suspends Myo Yan Naung Thein from his duties

The National League for Democracy (NLD) has suspended Myo Yan Naung Thein, secretary of the party’s Central Committee for Research and Strategic Studies and started an investigation into him, said Dr Myo Nyunt, the party’s spokesperson.

“The party has formed an investigation team but it hasn’t started. I cannot tell you about it right now,” he said.

When the Daily Eleven asked about the reason behind the suspension, he answered, “It is true that he had been suspended from his duties as he violated the party’s disciplines and rules.”

He didn’t confirmed about the news reported by Voice of Myanmar online news agency that the NLD received a complaint letter regarding Myo Yan Naung Thein and that the investigation is led by Nyan Win, member of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the party.

“It is not true and we are not saying anything more about it. It is our party internal affairs,” said the party spokesperson.

When the Daily Eleven tried to contact Myo Yan Naung Thein, his mobile phone has been switched off.

Myo Yan Naung Thein wrote a post on his Facebook page on July 25 that he is not worried as the party is only investigating him due to a complaint letter.

He wrote, “It is delaying my work. I want it to be finished quickly. I am fulfilling my duties. I am busy with the issues such as 2008 constitution and upcoming election from dawn till dusk. I was imprisoned in 1996 and released in 2010. I sacrificed for my country. I am sure that I didn’t do anything wrong.”

On July 24, Aung Soe, member of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the NLD and Chairman of the NLD party for Taninthayi Region, also submitted a letter of resignation. The party asked Dr Zaw Myint Maung, Vice Chairman (2) of the party, regarded with the resignation of the Chairman of the NLD party for Taninthayi Region.
