National League for Democracy vice chairman (2) Dr Zaw Myint Maung has denied the reports that coordination has been sought between State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and retired Senior General Than Shwe for the general election to be held  in 2020.

He was speaking to the media after a meeting of the NLD Central Executive Committee held in Nay Pyi Taw on November 11.

"I don't know if you have noticed or not. The news that Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi sought coordination for the 2020 general election is not true. We did not release this news. That can cause misunderstanding among the people. It is a great impact on us. We can do nothing for that. But we didn't. We didn't seek any coordination with anyone," said Dr Zaw Myint Maung.

The NLD vice chair's denial came after The Herald weekly journal published a news piece on October 9 alleging that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in league with retired Senior General Than Shwe had nominated a presidential candidate for the 2020 general election.

"Members of the public might have misunderstanding of us. It's nonsense!" Dr Zaw Myint Maung commented.
