Chairman of New National Democracy Party (NNDP) U Than Tun was shot dead on the morning of December 1, according to sources.

Gunman shot him at his house where he opened a photocopy shop in Ngamoeyeik ward, Thingangyun Township.

“The shop was opened at the ground floor of his house. He got six gunshot wounds. He was friends with former chairman of the party U Thein Nyunt. He accepted peaceful transition. Before he was shot, he was busy doing social works. I think he was closely monitored. I saw him at the Union Election Commission (UEC) yesterday. I’m saddened by his news,” said a member of NNDP.

Previously, NNDP chairman was U Thein Nyunt. But, U Thein Nyunt is currently serving as duties bestowed by State Administration Council (SAC) and when it’s time for the party registration, then vice-chair U Than Tun became Chairman of NNDP.

He was 54 years old and those close to him called Kwee Than aka Super Kwan Thee. His friends wrote condolences on social media concerning his death.

After 2021 February, about 6,800 people from education and health sectors, ward administrators and political parties’ members were killed accusing them of being informants, and not involving in Civil Disobedient Movement (CDM).
