An official from the Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Federation (MOEAF) announced that the Ministry of Labor has resumed accepting certain demand letters for male workers, which had previously been temporarily suspended.

"We have commenced re-accepting demand letters as of today, May 7. Demand letters that were temporarily halted are now being processed again," stated the official.

Several overseas employment agencies have confirmed the reinstatement of demand letters, albeit with some restrictions in place.

"Some companies that have re-submitted their documents have encountered certain limitations. However, there hasn't been any official communication regarding these restrictions. Only the agencies involved are aware of the specifics. Nonetheless, demand letters are indeed being accepted once more," explained a representative from a foreign employment agency.

Reports suggest that demand letters for male workers aged between 23 and 31 seeking employment abroad might not be currently accepted, though this remains unconfirmed.

Efforts to reach Permanent Secretary U Nyunt Win of the Ministry of Labour for clarification via email have been unsuccessful as of the evening of May 7.

Since May 1, the Ministry of Labour has ceased accepting demand letters from foreign employment agencies, as reported by the foreign employment agency community.

The Ministry of Labour has informed the media that the issuance of departure permits for male Myanmar workers has been temporarily suspended. This pause is intended to allow for thorough verification of relevant documents and consideration of other factors.

Myanmar boasts over 500 foreign employment agencies, with a significant portion of Myanmar workers seeking opportunities in neighboring Thailand, as well as in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Korea.
