Myanmar-Thailand border trade gets more flexible amid delays
Published 8 January 2024

The Department of Trade announced on January 7 that it will allow changes in border trade stations for exporters and importers who operate through the Myawady Trade Zone.

The zone, which facilitates trade between Myanmar and Thailand, has been facing delays in export and import activities. To address this issue, the department will let exporters who have obtained export license approval from the Myawady Trade Zone to switch to any other trade station on the Myanmar-Thailand border.

Likewise, importers who have received import license approval from the zone before December 19, 2023, will have the same option. Moreover, if they prefer to import by sea, they will be able to get verification for capital and production equipment and industrial raw materials carried by container on a case-by-case basis.

The department hopes that this move will improve the efficiency and convenience of border trade.
