Entry into Myanmar through border checkpoints with an entry visa has been suspended while foreigners allowed entry visa can enter the country through Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw international airports, according to  a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

To prevent and control the spread of COVID-19, Myanmar suspended entry through border gates with an entry visa on March 19. But entry through border pass is still permitted after health checks such as taking body temperature.

As some international flights have been suspended due to COVID-19, some counters of airlines also closed at Yangon International Airport.

About 10 airlines from South Korea and China to Myanmar have halted and flights of some other airlines have been reduced.

Yangon airport received 63,775 foreign travelers in February last year but this year’s February only saw 35,231. Arrivals of foreigners at the airport have dropped significantly since January this year following the COVID-19 outbreak.
