Residents said that there is a shortage of fuel in the Putao, Kachin State, and the farm work is done by manpower.

At present, one litre of gasoline in Putao town is 50,000 kyats. Locals said that one barrel of fuel costs up to five million kyats.

"I don't know if it will continue. We already have shortage of rice and gasoline. There is no sale of rice. In the morning, I saw four or five farmers pulling the plow with a rope to sow seeds in turn. The cows are also sold because of the poor economy in the region," said a resident of Putao.

The Myitkyina-Putao road has been closed since March 9, after the KIA Brigade 1 attacked Sumprabum.

Regarding the issue of fuel, the farmers and township elders together presented it to the Kachin State government, and since May 1, 1000 barrels of fuel have been shipped by air.

Putao District has six townships and according to the 2014 census, there are 91,257 people living there and around 25,000 acres of farmland.

Putao area is one of the districts with the highest under-one-year-old mortality rate in Myanmar due to conditions such as difficulty in farming and transportation and underdevelopment.

Many ethnic groups such as Shan, Rawan, Lisu, Jingphaw and Burmese live in Putao District.
