Myanmar Now reporter nominated for 2021 RSF Press Freedom Awards

Kay Zon Nway, a reporter of Myanmar Now news agency, has been on the list of the nominees for the 2021 RSF Press Freedom Awards to be presented by Reporters Without Borders based in Paris, according to the website of RSF.  

The awards are in three categories, and Kay Zon Nway is on the list of the nominees for the prize for courage

Young reporter Kay Zon Nway was arrested on 26 February while live-streaming a protest after military takeover in Myanmar.

She was released on July 1 after 124 days in detention.

Journalists and media outlets from 11 countries have been nominated for the awards that will be given in three categories journalistic courage, impact and independence. The 12 nominees (four in each category) consist of six journalists, four of whom are women, and six media outlets or journalists organizations.

They include specialists in investigative journalism in countries where the right to inform is drastically curtailed or is under threat Belarus, China, Brazil, Turkey and Northern Ireland (United Kingdom).

Since 1992, the RSF Press Freedom Awards have been presented for the work of journalists and media making a notable contribution to the defence or promotion of freedom of the media around the world.

The winners of the awards will be announced on November 18.
