MAWLAMYAING-The International Youth Day was held in Thanlwin Park, Mawlamyaing Township, Mon State, yesterday evening. 

“The respective States and Regions have to hold the International Youth Day which fell on August 12th. We, Mon State, had decided that the day should be held. However, we celebrated the day on August 20th because the flooding had occurred in Mon State,” said Mi Zin Win Mon , a member of the Mon State Youth Affairs Committee.

She also said that plans were underway to hold the Youth Day at the City Hall in Mon State. But, the hall was inconveniently held for all participants. That’s why they held the event in Thanlwin Park aiming for everybody who can participate in the ceremony. Youth’s life was free. They were happy to hold the Youth Day at the public concerned place.

The International Youth Day was celebrated around the world on August 12th. However, Mon State didn’t hold the event because the state had faced the flooding.

“We invited all organizations based in Mon State aiming to participate in the event. The ethnic youth organizations will be entertaining their traditional dances. Especially, the program which will show the youth’s capacity will be displayed. And then, we will perform on introduction program to the youths as well as the youths will be exchanging their experiences. The youths will also display their own-creations. We have a plan to perform the event including 17 programs,” said Kyi Zaw, Secretary of Mon State Youth Affairs Committee.

All ethnic youth organizations based in Mon State, the Students Union’s members and youths from other civic and social organizations also attended the ceremony.
