Mine attack destroys Sittaung River Bridge (Myosoe Bridge) in Htantabin Township, Bago Region

Information Team of State Administration Council (SAC) issued a statement that explosion took place at the Sittaung River Bridge (Myosoe Bridge) in Kywepwe-Zayatgyi highway in Htantabin Township, Bago Region on February 7.

As the combined forces of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defence Forces (PDF) attacked the local battalion in Zayatgyi Township, Tamadaw attacked those using airstrikes and heavy weapons and drove them from the area, according to SAC.

The KNLA and PDF forces opened fire on security members at the 1,200 feet long Myosoe Bridge, which is built over the Sittaung River along Kywepwe-Zayatgyi road. They exploded the bridge at 4:30 am on 7 February, and they also attacked a regional base in Zayatgyi, it is reported.

When carrying out the clearing work in the area, members of the security force found a damaged Alin Say Taman social organization vehicle beside the road and also dead bodies, arms and ammunition inside the vehicles.

KNLA and PDF transported weapons and injured persons under the philanthropic theme. While carrying out security measures in the west villages of Zayatgyi, a clash between Tatmadaw columns and KNLA and PDF forces hiding in Zayatgyi occurred, and the KNLA and PDF forces retreated. Then, the arms and ammunition and dead bodies of terrorists were seized, according to SAC.

They torched the houses of innocent civilians while retreating. Some locals sent the photos of burning houses to the authorities. KNLA and PDF forces transported their members and weapons using ambulances.  SAC also announced that they are implementing prevalence of stability in the area.
