The Labour Department issued a statement that those wishing to go working in Thailand should go to Thailand through MoU signed between the two countries on October 4.

If Myanmar migrant workers go to work in Thailand in an illegal manner, they will face up to prison term and fines.

Just getting a passport is not enough to go to Thailand. Myanmar migrant workers will be allowed to stay in Thailand only if they get visa. Although Myanmar migrant workers have got passport, visa and work permit, they may be arrested because of different expressions of the employers.

Those holding fake passport and documents will face up to one to ten years in prison and minimum baht 10,000 to 200,000 in fine. Migrant workers should go to Thailand through MoU signed between the two countries.

The Labour Dept is sending Myanmar migrant workers to Thailand based on MoU through local employment agencies.

The appointments of Thai employers must be submitted to Thai labour department from Myanmar’s labor office. With the permission of Thai labour department, Thai agencies must contact Myanmar ones. The work permits must be submitted to the Ministry of Labour Employment, Immigration and Population through the military labour attaché. Then, the work permits must be submitted the committee of education, health and human resources development. With the permission of the committee, the Thai employer or the representative of the Thai employer must come to Myanmar and sign the contract of the employer and the employee. If visa is OK, the migrant worker is sent to the worksite together with the representative of the employer holding the labour identity card.
