Kawthoung District court issued arrest warrant to the owner of Thahtay Kyun Hotel U Kyaw Lwin for committing online scam, money laundering on February 7.

State Administration Council (SAC) issued a statement that U Kyaw Lwin residing in Kawthoung Town, Tanintharyi region, committed an online scam, money laundering from such illegal gambling, material transformation and was suspected of converting and concealing the money and materials obtained from such unlawful gambling, according to the relevant information. Therefore, an arrest warrant was issued on 7 January 2024 to take legal action against U Kyaw Lwin.

Authorities inspected Thahtay Kyun Hotel and the Golden Bear Bridge in Myanmar after the assets of some of the owners and businessmen including owner of the Thahtay Kyun Hotel in Thailand were confiscated, sources said. It is reported that an arrest warrant was issued in Thailand on February 1 for U Kyaw Lwin (Thai name Mr. Phu), the owner of the Thahtay Kyun Hotel, who was born in Myanmar and received Thai citizenship, and his assets were confiscated.

It is reported in Thai media that 18 entrepreneurs, including U Kyaw Lwin, are involved in illegal online gambling, fuel export, tax fraud and possession of black money and seven businessmen have been arrested in connection with the cases.

Thai authorities raided and searched 27 target locations all over Thailand at the same time and impounded billions of Thai baht in cash, jewelry, and cars. It has been announced that U Kyaw Lwin aka Mr. Phu has not yet been arrested.

Currently, there are the security staff and staff to provide hotel room services at the Thahtay Kyun Hotel and online casinos and other entertainment venues have stopped, said the locals.
