Kachin special court sentences ex NLD chair and two other regional ministers

MYITGYINA----The special court in Kachin State had sentenced chairman of former National League for Democracy (NLD) in Kachin State, former MP representing from Hpa-kant Township and two other regional ministers to the jail terms in relevant prisons on December 30th, according to the sources.

Nay Win, regional minister of Social Affairs in Kachin State Government, was sentenced to three years in prison on three charges under Section 25 of Natural Disaster Management Law.

Likewise, Zaw Win, former regional minister of Immigration and Human Resources and ex MP Tint Soe, representing from Hpa-kant Township got two-year sentence each for Section 17(1) of Unlawful Association and Section 25 of Natural Disaster Management Law.

Moreover, former NLD chairman Mya Thein received one year sentence under Section 25 of Natural Disaster Management Law.

“One corruption charge will be sentenced for Nay Win. Likewise, Walky-talky charge remains for Mya Thein. Zaw Win is being detained at Myitgyina Prison. We don’t know about Tint Soe who is being sentenced in Moenyin Prison. The court sentenced to them on December 30th,” said a person who was close to the detainees.

On December 9th, Kachin State Natural Resources Minister Dar Shi La Sai got two-year sentence under Criminal Procedure Section 505(b) of Defamation Law.

Among civilian ministers who had served in the Kachin State Government Committee at the time of ex government led by NLD, only ethnic affairs ministers were free from the charge.
