UEC cancels the application of Arakan National Party

The Union Election Commission (UEC) announced  on July 1 that it cancelled the application of the Arakan National Party  as it did not comply with the stipulations in Section 7 of the Political Parties Registration Law.

It stated that according to the review of the ministries concerned regarding the application of the Arakan National Party for the right to continue as a political party and registration under Section 25 of the Political Parties Registration Law, the Union Election Commission found that the party is contrary to the stipulations in Section 7 of the Political Parties Registration Law. 

The UEC cancelled the application of the party in accordance with the decision of the Union Election Commission Plenary Meeting 11/2024 under the Political Parties Registration Rules (g) on 1 July.

The UEC stated in the statement that it is also conducting verification of the other groups that applied for the right to register as a party.

On May 7, according to the verification responses of the relevant departments, the application of the Democracy Party was found to be inconsistent with the provisions of Section 4 of the Political Parties Registration Law, and the UEC rejected the party's application for the establishment of a party in form (c) of the Political Parties Registration Law.

In addition, on May 14, according to the verification responses of the relevant ministries on the application of the Chin People’s party, it was found that it did not comply with the provisions of Section 4 of the Political Parties Registration Law, and the UEC rejected the party's application  to establish a party in form (c) of the Political Parties Registration Law.

Similarly, on May 21, according to the verification responses of the relevant ministries, regarding the application of the Union Development Party to be registered as a political party under Section 5 of the Political Parties Registration Law, it was found that it did not comply with the provisions of Section 6 of the Political Parties Registration Law, and according to the decision of the UEC Plenary Meeting No. (2/2024), it has been rejected by UEC in Form (G) of the Political Parties Registration Rules, it stated.
